Making film festivals accessible to moms
KIDS’ FEST
Subsidized childcare for filmmakers and film lovers
It’s incredibly hard (sometimes impossible) for parents to attend film festivals, even when screening their work. The burden, statistically, hits mothers the hardest. We can’t let having a family exclude our community from the festival experience. Together, we can create a better way.
Having children shouldn’t exclude you from the magic of film festivals
By offering subsidized childcare, we’re making film festivals accessible to parents & caregivers.
MORE THAN CELEBRATING FILMMAKER MOMS. SHOW US WE BELONG.
KEEP MOMS IN THE GAME
Festivals are essential to filmmakers. Support allows us to attend in person, network, and keep a place in this industry.
SUPPORT AND INCLUDE
Filmmakers can attend events without worrying about their children. We are embraced and have the space to be a filmmaker and a mom.
GROW YOUR AUDIENCE
Reach new members of your community and increase your audience now that parents can attend screenings
Three simple options for an incredible impact
Movie Night Drop Off
Parents with kids over the age of four can drop little ones at Kids Fest. They’ll have their own movie night (under professional supervision) while parents head to their film.
Thoughtful Lounges
Creating a lounge space with parents in mind gives comfort to nursing moms and a secure area for caretakers to rest or regroup.
Mini-Grants
Parents with kids under four, or children with special needs, can apply for a micro-grant to cover the cost of childcare that works for them.
How it works
KIDS’ FEST MOVIE NIGHT DROP-IN
Studio IX helps connect festivals with partners to provide insured childcare for a designated night/nights
Parents attending the festival drop off their children (ages 4+) at the Kids’ Fest location close to the theater.
Kids will have their own movie night (complete with healthy snacks!) under professional supervision, while parents attend their screening.
📉 Pricing for Kids’ Fest will be on a sliding scale, and free for those who need.
THOUGHTFUL LOUNGES
Studio IX will consult with festivals to create a family-friendly space
Filmmakers with children will receive a complimentary access pass for their child and caregiver so they have a space to hang out during the festival
Private areas for nursing or pumping will be available for those who need, as well as a refrigerator for filmmakers who need to store milk
MINI-GRANTS
Studio IX will work with festivals to provide filmmakers with children under the age of 4 or those with special with small grants
Filmmakers can use the funds toward childcare that works for them

The current reality leaves us out
“I’ve never felt more unwelcome than when I found out the “private room” I was promised for nursing my baby was just a public bathroom.”
“Since I became a mom it’s nearly impossible to attend.”
“My current film follows a single mother’s fight for child care and early education — and as a solo mom I have trouble attending our screenings myself.”
“I want to be part of a film industry that prioritizes parents’ voices or at least makes it possible for them to join the conversation.”
“I feel completely unseen.”
“I LOVE festivals and used to go all the time. Since having a baby it’s like I’ve had the door slammed in my face.”
